THIS BOOK. Good God, this book. I would like to have a book club dedicated to discussing only this book for a year.
As of 12 50PM on Monday the 16th of January...
I have gotten rid of facebook. Yee haw. Anyone interested in remaining in contact with me (and who didn’t get a chance to message me via facebook) should send me contact info through my ask box.
Now to post photos from my hut trip.

Shameless self-promotion of the day →
Myself and a few friends from Chapman are starting a blog. We’ll post things as often as they get written; ideally once a month. Theoretically there will be themes for each posting. The article currently on there was written for the prompt “displacement” - writing about living in new surroundings. I have a slightly more thoughtful essay about my move out here, but it’s...
Personalized reccomendations... →
a bookstore owner in Tokyo runs a bookstore that carries no bestsellers or blockbuster books, just hundreds of books he knows quite well, and then does personal recommendations based on his customers’ taste.
I can only hope that he lasts.
No one cares you're a local... →
Unless you actually are a local, in which case, you care very much about growing up and still living in a town that hundreds of people move to every year. There’s a mentality in Steamboat from people who’ve been here for a while that’s very “look-down-your-nose-at-the-move-ins”. This seems to be a pattern in towns all over the Western US, and though this article...

Amazon.com sinks to below the belt lows →
Last week, Amazon ran a special suggesting that their customers use independent bookstores to find books they wanted, scan the ISBNs, and then send that information to Amazon, earning them a $5 discount on their order.
Scummy.
So here’s an article written by someone a mite more articulate than me, but just as angry. And if you haven’t finished your Christmas shopping, go give a local...

Here’s to the book that:
~showed me the merits of the sci-fi genre. ~gave me my first female author I liked. ~taught me to enjoy series. ~made me terrified to look anyone directly in the eye for most of my formative years.

A brief article I contributed to for one Joey Halegua’s blog. Check it out - other writers are Robert Sobel, Greg Johnson, Mikey Bulanti, and Joey himself.

But hey, how many other people can say that they got arrested for going on a 10-hour horseback adventure which included rides on hiking trails on the mountain across the river, several stops at bars around town, and Safeway for a bag of chips, purchased on horseback?
Watch the video. And look at the store manager’s face.

NPR article on cleaning up the copper mine at Holden Village. Hopefully things go all right with this and Holden doesnt’ crash and burn because of the recovery crew overrunning the village.

A thought on where I live.
Only in Steamboat are your chances of having sex with an Olympian higher than your chances of having sex with a virgin.

…the fabulous, unspeakably bleak, terrifying, beautiful desert of Canyonlands, Needles, Islands in the Sky, and Arches National Money-Mint. (monument - sorry I also read Desert Solitaire out there).

but I have had Foster the People’s Torches on repeat on my iPod for almost two weeks now. And it is damn good - Pumped Up Kicks is probably the least best…for lack of a better word.

a conversation with my mother revealed that she met Edward Abbey when she was in her early 20s.
What the hell, mom - how did you let me get to 23 before just casually mentioning, “Oh yeah, I was rafting the Colorado around the same time he was working in Moab and writing Desert Solitaire.”
What the hell.
