Writing excercise - day three
I tried to submit a couple of ones today, but being at work and actually having to *gasp* work, I could only get this one up. Day 3:  Think about the character you created for Day 2. Write their seven word biography. Charlie hunched; he never really stood straight.

Day Two of writing-based posting.
Create a character. Write a brief scene of them in a setting. Also use this paragraph to introduce the character to the reader by how they react to their setting. Charlie sighed. He’d ordered a black coffee ten minutes ago and the girls behind the counter were still busy making drinks for customers that had ordered after him. A black coffee - that’s all he wanted. A simple enough...

And now, a much more upbeat post.
I found one of those lists of posts to make over a certain number of days. This one has to do with writing, so I figured I’d give it a shot, though they aren’t going to be consecutive, since I don’t have internet access every day. Here’s day one. Write a biography of your life. Only use seven words. Wanderlust-struck. Always looking forward. And back.

Dear passive aggressive customer,
The next time you want to have a private conversation with your BFF about your recent divorce, try not going to a public place. If you want to be alone, don’t ask me, “Excuse me, is this really your job today? To be working in this section right here?” The answer is yes. It’s my job to keep the bookstore clean. When half the travel books are in the used section and the...

Yeah Washington! Pass it pass it. oreadfarallon: read about it here! “OLYMPIA, Wash. The measure now heads to the House, which is expected to

Shameless self-promotion of the day →
Myself and a few friends from Chapman are starting a blog. We’ll post things as often as they get written; ideally once a month. Theoretically there will be themes for each posting. The article currently on there was written for the prompt “displacement” - writing about living in new surroundings. I have a slightly more thoughtful essay about my move out here, but it’s...

No one cares you're a local... →
Unless you actually are a local, in which case, you care very much about growing up and still living in a town that hundreds of people move to every year. There’s a mentality in Steamboat from people who’ve been here for a while that’s very “look-down-your-nose-at-the-move-ins”.  This seems to be a pattern in towns all over the Western US, and though this article...

Amazon.com sinks to below the belt lows →
Last week, Amazon ran a special suggesting that their customers use independent bookstores to find books they wanted, scan the ISBNs, and then send that information to Amazon, earning them a $5 discount on their order. Scummy. So here’s an article written by someone a mite more articulate than me, but just as angry. And if you haven’t finished your Christmas shopping, go give a local...

But hey, how many other people can say that they got arrested for going on a 10-hour horseback adventure which included rides on hiking trails on the mountain across the river, several stops at bars around town, and Safeway for a bag of chips, purchased on horseback?  Watch the video. And look at the store manager’s face.
