After coming back from the red rock of Utah, the greenery of the Gorge was a pretty amazing contrast. For our last hike before hitting Longview, Adam and I did a loop around Horsetail Falls, up to Ponytail Falls, which you can walk behind, and back down to the old scenic highway. Halfway through the hike, there’s a spur trail that is about a mile to Triple Falls, where there’s a bridge that spans the creek and heads up-valley another 12 miles, making a bigger loop and ending at Multnomah Falls.

The highlight of this hike was rounding the bend to Triple Falls and seeing that someone had put a giant poster on the bridge that read “PROM?” As we got closer, we saw a very patient-looking boy holding a single rose and standing by the bridge. He said he was sorry if the poster was ruining photos we were trying to take; the girl he was waiting for was taking a little longer than he’d expected. We wished him luck and played around on the bridge and in the creek, then headed back.

On the way, as we passed groups of hikers, we guessed who might be his potential date. Whoever she was, I hope she said yes.
